Congratulations now that you are enrolled at the University of Maryland and have gone through Orientation, we want to provide you with a few more resources and again with some of the information that you received at Orientation.

Registering for Classes/Using my.umd.edu-

How do I register for classes?

At UMD we use a system called Testudo to register for classes. Visit this page for a tutorial on how to register for classes using Testudo. Click here for the Testudo Tutorial.

Can I change my classes after Orientation?

Of course! You can change your courses at any time provided it is within the University's rules for schedule changes. Just log-in to Testudo to change your schedule.

What other tools are available to me that deal with registration?

Another tool is VENUS. VENUS is a tool that allows you to see various different ways that you can take your classes based on time. Just plug in the courses you are taking and VENUS will give you options as to when and where you can take those courses.

What is my.umd.edu?

my.umd.edu is what we call the Portal. It is a "one stop shop" personalized homepage for you. Check local weather, camus announcement, grades, financial obligations, use the online calendar that atomatically fills in your course times, look up information on student life and more!

How to clear a parking ticket-

There are many ways to avoid getting parking tickets on campus. Make sure you read all of the signs very clearly before parking. The ticketing personell are extremly quick and efficient. However, if you do get a ticket, just go to https://www.parking.umd.edu/parking/cmn/.

At this site you can either appeal a ticket or pay for your ticket. Sometimes they will remove your ticket charge with a stern warning not to repeat the offense, sometimes they will reduce the fee and and often you just have to pay the fine.

Computers on campus-

Using computers on campus is quite easy. There are many labs where you can use computers and also places where you don't have to be inside to work.

Most of the UMD campus is wireless meaning that you can bring your laptop to campus, sit on the McKeldin Mall or any other location and use wireless internet. Just login using your Directory ID and password.

The Stamp Student Union also provides laptops at their Information Desk to registered students for two hours. The Union is also wireless enabled.

There are computer labs in many buildings and also the libraries. Printing is available for a fee using your Student ID. You must set up your print account before heading to a computer lab. To see a list of computer labs, click here. To see how to set up a print account, click here.

Libraries-

There are two main libraries on campus: McKeldin and Hornbake.

Hornbake contains the non-print media while McKeldin has mostly print media. Hornbake also hold the archives. Both are open to all students.

To check out a book just go to the library, find the books you need and head to the check out counter. Hand the attendent your Student ID and you are all set. You will receive email notifications if another student requests the book you have checked out, if it is overdue and for various other reasons. But it is the student's responsibility to return all materials on time.

There are photcopiers in all libraries. Use your Terrapin Express Account to use the copiers. Find out how to set up that account here.
