Step 6: Take the Online Math Placement Exam
It is important to understand whether you need to take the Math Placement Exam or not. The Math Placement Exam is not a test used to decide if you should be admitted to the University. It is an exam used to determine what level of math you should be placed into based on your current knowledge the subject. Administrators in the Math Department use this information combined with SAT/ACT scores and previous course grades to determine what Math Course you should take here at UMD. We recommend that all students take the Math Placement Exam even if they have requirements that exempt them from taking the exam.
The Math Placement Exam MUST be taken prior to attending Orientation.
-You should receive an email telling you to complete the math placement exam.
-Please wait 24 to 48 hours after you have created your Directory ID to take the Math Placement Exam online. -Please visit the Math Placement Exam information page for practice materials and other important information regarding the exam.
-Visit http://www.math.umd.edu/undergraduate/credit/ for information on credit transfer and taking the Math Placement Exam.
